Abstract

Thorectes coloni, a new species in the subgenus Thorectes Mulsant from Rif mountains (northwestern Morocco) is decribed. Two groups of North African species in the subgenus Thorectes are stablished for practical purposes based on external morphological traits: one group including T. laevigatus and T. trituberculatus and the other group containing T. armifrons and T. coloni n. sp. Differences and similarities between T. (T.) coloni n. sp. and the other species in the subgenus Thorectes are discussed.
