Recent literature on faunistics and taxonomy of Iberian Meloidae include records from authors of the XIX and early XX centuries, but in most cases the main reference is to the compilatory works of Górriz Muñoz (1882) and De la Fuente (1933). While the precise original localities recorded by earlier or coetaneous authors are generally ignored. We believe that the omission of these original records is a relevant loss, because of their value in faunistics and their utility in the assessment of historical changes in the Iberian ranges of some species. In this work we have compiled the Iberian records of species of Meloidae published earlier than the “Catálogo sistemático geográfico de los Coleópteros observados en la Península Ibérica, Pirineos propiamente dichos y Baleares” by J. M. De la Fuente (1933). We discuss the different possibilities for species adscription when the original nomenclature does not correspond with that presently used. We have deleted from the Ibero-Balearic Catalogue of Meloidae: Cerocoma muehlfeldi Gyllenhal, 1817, Cerocoma vahli Fabricius, 1787, Epicauta rufidorsum (Goeze, 1777), Cyaneolytta granulipennis Lapouge, 1840, Cabalia segetum (Fabricius, 1792), Lagorina scutellata (Laporte de Castelnau, 1840), Muzimes collaris (Fabricius, 1787), Oenas afer (Linnaeus, 1758), Oenas crassicornis (Illiger, 1800), Meloe (Listromeloe) hungarus Schrank, 1776, Croscherichia paykulli (Billberg, 1813), Hycleus fuscus (Olivier, 1811), Hycleus praeustus (Fabricius, 1792), Hycleus wagneri (Chevrolat, 1837), Mylabris (Eumylabris) fabricii Sumakov, 1924, Mylabris (Eumylabris) impressa Chevrolat, 1837, Mylabris (Mylabris) schreibersi Reiche, 1865, Euzonitis terminata (Abeille de Perrin, 1880), Euzonitis paulinae (Mulsant & Rey, 1858), Zonitis ruficollis Frivaldszky, 1877, and Apalus bimaculatus (Linnaeus, 1761). The presence of Actenodia distincta (Chevrolat, 1837) is considered doubtful.
