The characteristics and peculiarities of the Collection of Ichthyology of the Spanish Museo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales is presented. The principal contributions wich have reached the collection in nearly 200 years of history, as well as the materials which procede from the work of the teams of investigation of the Museum, has supposed a growth in turn of 400% in the last 15 years. A report of the catalogues published about this collection is offered and information over its composition taxonomic and geographic origen is given. A list of series and specimen type is also given.
